E-networking: How to build online professional relationships

Networking is a key element in developing your professional skills, keeping up to date with the latest research in your field and meeting potential collaborators, mentors and employers. For many of you, attending scientific conferences and other events are your prime opportunities to network. With in-person events currently postponed, you may be asking ‘how can I network effectively whilst we can’t meet face-to-face?’. As is the answer with most things at present, you need to bring it online! Join Sarah Blackford as she explores the different types of online networking and how to use them effectively as well as providing practical tips to enhance your current networking activities.

Sarah is a certified master’s qualified Higher Education careers adviser specialising in supporting PhD students and postdoctoral researcher in the biosciences. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and registered member of the Career Development Institute (CDI), Sarah works to an ethical code of practice.
